It’s a Lousy Time To Buy a Certified Pre-Owned BMW
BMW announced earlier this week that its certified pre-owned sales for 2009 are on a torrid pace. A press release says the company is on track to beat last year's record number of 104,000 units continuing to lead the premium segment of the market. That means it’s a lousy time to buy a used BMW.
When demand is high, so is price. There is only a finite number of BMWs that can be certified. That’s a problem that’s further going to be exacerbated by the fact BMW sales were off 37 percent in February.
It’s just a hunch, but I bet part of the decline is attributable to the increased demand for certified pre-owned BMWs because year-to-date new BMW sales are down about 10,000, while certified sales are at 19,000. By the way, more details about BMW's certified pre-owned program are available here.
Keep in mind the only dealership that can sell you a certified pre-owned BMW is a BMW dealership. Any other claims of certification are not backed by the manufacturer.

A car dealership or vehicle local distribution is a business that sells new cars/ old cars at the retail level based on a dealership contract with an automaker. It may also provide maintenance services for cars.
Used Car Dealers
I would agree that it is a bad time to buy certified, pre-owned BMWs, but it it is a great time in general, to find smoking deals on Bimmers. BMW cars are luxury items that many people can no longer afford in this slumping economy. The deals are out there and there are some really sharp, BMWs that can save you thousands of dollars, yet give you the same satisfaction as a new one.
