Cash for Clunkers Vehicles List Compiled by Edmunds

Friday June 12, 2009

Well, by now I’ve made it clear that I am against the Cash for Clunkers legislation that is about to be passed in Congress. However, that doesn’t mean I don’t want you to take advantage of this federal handout if you’re eligible.

To make your life easier, the great folks at Edmunds.com have compiled a list of more than 1000 vehicles that qualify for the Cash for Clunkers handout. Here’s a sample of the list below:

  • Year Model, Combined Mileage, Trade-in
  • 1996 Honda Passport, 15, $1,227
  • 1997 Lincoln Continental, 18, $1,179
  • 1998 Chevrolet Silverado, 14, $3,378
  • 1995 Audi A6, 18, $1,261
  • 1996 Toyota Land Cruiser, 13, $4,042

As a reminder, Edmunds.com says the Cash for Clunkers bill has these components:

  • It will offer no more than $4,500 to new car buyers.
  • It will require the trade-in vehicle to be crushed (which means that owners will not collect any trade-in value.)
  • Cars to be scrapped would have to have EPA combined fuel economy ratings of 18 miles per gallon or less, and the new vehicle purchased must earn better mileage.
  • The participant must have owned the "clunker" for one year.

I've written a couple of articles explaining how the CARS program works so that you can take full advantage of the program:
