Least Expensive Used Cars To Insure

Here is the second part of an interesting article at insure.com about the 10 least expensive cars to insure. (Earlier this week I wrote a blog about the most expensive cars to insure.) The list is for 2009 models, but it definitely applies to older models, as well. All cars on the list are available as 2008 models or older.
Insurance is an important factor to keep in mind when shopping for a used car. You need to have a discussion with your insurance agent to determine how much your monthly costs are going to increase or decrease and factor that in to your monthly car payments. One thing I like about this list is how cheap it is to insure a minivan. You can definitely move a lot of people for little premiums.
- $832, Hyundai Santa Fe, Midsize SUV
- $840, Kia Sportage, Small SUV
- $848, Hyundai Entourage, Minivan
- $857, Kia Sedona, Minivan
- $870, Kia Rio5, Small wagon
- $871, Honda Odyssey, Minivan
- $881, Smart Fortwo, Small passenger car
- $911, Saturn VUE, SUV
- $913, Mazda Tribute, SUV
- $915, Chrysler Town & Country, Minivan
By the way, (here’s the legal speak) according to insure.com, “Averages based on a 40-year-old male driver who commutes 12 miles to work, with policy limits of 100/300/50 ($100,000 for injury liability for one person, $300,000 for all injuries and $50,000 for property damage in an accident) and a $500 deductible on collision and comprehensive. Policy includes uninsured motorist coverage. Rates were averaged across multiple ZIP codes and insurance companies. Average rates are for comparative purposes; your rate will depend on your personal factors.”
