Government Website Does Good Job with Cash for Clunkers

There is an old joke that states as part of its punch line (and no, I won't repeat the rest of the punch line):"We're from the government and we're here to help." Well, that's no longer a joke if you own a used car that might be part of the Cash for Clunkers program now being set up by the federal government.
Its website, www.cars.gov, is fairly clear and concise. It has lots of useful information about the new law, including an eight-page summary of the law, which allows you to turn in a gas guzzler for a more fuel efficient car and a credit of at least $3500.
Of course, you can always just consult my article on cash for clunkers if you're in a hurry, but I do want to commend the federal government for doing a great job on the website.

So many people are misinformed on the Cash for Clunkers program and it’s great to see that you are posting the government site. Some think that it replaces your best deal and therefore there is little to gain. Nothing can be farther from the truth. Make your best deal, tack on the rebate from the manufacturer (if any) and then include either the $3,500 or $4,500 from Cash for Clunkers.
With the right mix, a buyer should be able to knock 1K to 3K off the MSRP, take off another 2K to 3K in rebates, and then 4.5K CFC. What a deal!!!
It’s the worst website I have encounted. I have been trying to register the multiple dealerships for which I am employed and the site is constantly down

If I may defend myself, I was looking at the site purely through a consumer’s eyes. Sorry to hear it’s such an abysmal failure for dealers trying to register. I haven’t seen much about that in the press.
