OK, I’m on vacation next week, so I promise to temper all this talk about Cash for Clunkers. (I will still be writing my blog, though.) I just wanted to squeeze in an interesting tidbit from Autobytel.Com because I hadn’t thought about the most popular clunkers being traded in for cash.
According to a news release, “Autobytel recently looked at which vehicles consumers are most interested in turning in for the CARS program and, perhaps not surprisingly, domestics are at the top of the list, with the Big 3's SUVs, pickups and vans filling those spots.”
The Top 10 models with the most activity as reported by Autobytel.com's Cash for Clunkers tool are:
- Ford F-Series
- Ford Explorer
- Chevrolet C/K/Silverado
- Jeep Grand Cherokee
- Dodge Ram
- Chevrolet Blazer
- Jeep Cherokee
- Dodge Grand Caravan
- Dodge Dakota
- Ford Ranger
Have you clunked? That's my new short hand trade for trading in a clunker for cash. Share with others below what your clunker was and what you bought.

I would really like to see the mileage on the clunked cars also so it can be determined about how many more “guzzle” miles they really would have been driven. It looks like we are seeing a lot of
old wood, boat and trailer haulers.
In response to Nanoman, I traded in an 89′ Chevy Silverado with 190,000 miles for a Nissan Frontier. Hope the Nissan is as good as the Chevy as I put only about $500 in repairs in 20 years – half of that in the last year! But the old Chevy was really on its last legs – a couple bad valves made noise and burned about 1 qt. oil/2000 miles – not horrible but it was getting progressively worse. With peeling paint and worn out seats, my wife refused to be seen in it.
Silverado 190,000 miles with $500 repairs/20 years? That must have excluded your brakes, car batteries, head lights not to mention tuneup, smog repairs. Granted you got good mileage but your repair costs over 20 years is highly exaggerated. That Frontier will easily surpass that Silverado.
turned in an ugly green/blue ford f150 2wd with 167,000 miles for a 2009 black ford flex sel awd with 40 miles on it got about $8,ooo off the sticker price
Good for you and all of the readers who did well with the Cash for Clunkers program!
