The next section of a CARFAX includes the details. These are the various times the vehicle was registered, sold, traded, or when service was reported. This is an excellent resource as the mileage and date is recorded, making odometer fraud nearly impossible.
The details section includes:
- Date
- Mileage
- Source
- Comments
The details section is often the most interesting part of a CARFAX report. From the information, it is possible to trace where the vehicle was purchased, sold, and garaged. You can see if the used car spent time in the Snow Belt, accumulated 25,000 miles in one year, or sat parked for a decade.
CARFAX Accuracy
While CARFAX guarantees their report, they cannot be held liable for information that was not available, or hidden from record. In theory, an individual could hide significant damage to their vehicle if they repaired it themselves and it was never reported.
While a CARFAX is an excellent resource, it is wise to follow any significant used car purchase with a Pre-Purchase Inspection from a trusted source.
