Used Cars Comment of the Week

Sunday September 7, 2008

There are few original ideas when it comes to blogs, even about the lively topic of used cars. That’s why I am stealing an idea from Aaron Gold, About.com’s guide to cars. He has a comment of the week on his blog (by the way, I think that’s Aaron in the photo).

So, with all the good comments that come across in my research from readers, interview subjects, and folks in the news, I have decided to implement a Used Cars Comment of the Week.

The inaugural winner is Robert Stinnett. His quote is

“Like you said, if you need a SUV, drive a SUV. I have one for my dad who is in a wheelchair -- it makes sense. However, as a nation, we need to look at how to reduce our dependence on oil and on unnecessary transportation. Ultimately, what this nation needs is a mass transit system that serves a large portion of the country.”
Read the rest of his comment in the used cars forum.

I’m fortunate enough to travel to Europe once a year and I have to agree with Robert. We do need mass transit in this country. I love being able to hop on a subway or even a bus to reach a destination. I’m a recent devotee of Amtrak. Kudos to Rob for his comments, even though he works in the car industry!

Log into my forum, comment on a blog, or send me an email. Who knows? Your comments could be the next Used Cars Comment of the Week. Hey, there are worse accolades in life.

Lucky for you, I stole the idea too. And how did you get one of my baby pictures? — Aaron

Wow, my five minutes of fame! :-)

People in this country, unfortunately, do not seem to care about issues until they affect them personally. Gas prices stirred up people because they were being affected personally. Despite the outcry early on this year, I see people falling back into their old ways once again. Until this nation can come together and demand from their leaders a solution (through renewable energy sources [other than food sources!], efficient mass transit, etc) we are going to be revisiting this topic year in and year out.

Keith,

The fourth estate has done a terrible job conveying issues of all kinds over the past few decades, but the abuse heaped on the transportation segment of American life is totally disproportionent to the other uses of petroleum in the USA. Outrageous second homes, over-built primary homes, and all of the commodities needed to stock, run, and maintain these palaces reflect our ‘me now, non-accountable’ lifestyles. To focus on just cars, SUV’s, and other motobilia is very myopic for our future.
