What was your first car after graduation - either high school or college? My first car after college was a 1972 Ford Pinto with a manual, 4-speed transmission. It was yellow, cost me a week's pay, and it ran great. What memories do you have of your first car? And, if you care to share, did your parents give it to you? Share Your First Car

Mustang - Dona

I am female, I graduated H S on June 10, 1964. No "free-ride" from my parents. I had to start working a paying job at age 12, as a baby-sitter for 1 baby, with a new baby added every year (a total of 5 children). In the summer I worked 9-10 hours a day. I saved most of my money. At 16, I worked part-time: evenings, holidays, & Saturdays, at G. C. Murphy Co. (Wal-Mart of today). June 11, 1964, I became a full-time employee. July 11, 1964, I was promoted to PayrollClerk/Assistant Personnel Director. In Jan 1965, I ordered a Silver-Blue Ford Mustang, V-8, 289 engine, automatic. It cost $2,879. It "came in" May 8, 1965. (High-demand). I met my husband because of my Mustang. In 1992, our son inherited my Mustang, he married, and his wife insisted he sell it. He sold it July 1993 for $4,000. Mint condition. It is still being taken to car shows by it's new owner. I loved my 1965 Mustang because I worked hard to buy it all by myself. I also bought a 25th Silver Anniversary Mustang. - Dona

'00 Infiniti I30

I got my license between junior and senior year of high school was I was 17. And of course when I got my license I got my first car, a white 2000 Infiniti I30. It's been with me for 4 years now and it's never let me down. Now as im buying a new car I can't bring myself to sell it, and I never will. It's new home is the other side of the garage and days when I want to relive my past and drive it around.

1967 Datsun Sedan

My first car out of high school was a 1967 Datsun 4 door sedan when I was stationed in Guam. The stereo was worth more than the car and you'd pull into a gas station to fill your oil and check your gas while you were there. .20 years later I was racing a 67 Datsun 1600 roadster which was only one of two models Datsun ever put the R16 engine in. The other model was that 4 door sedan.

'02 BMW 325i

I got my BMW a few days after high school graduation (2002). In my town it still turns some heads, despite being 9 years old. It probably helps that around here a nice car is considered a '95 Honda. It is such a fun car to drive. I would have replaced it a few years ago, the repairs are rare but expensive when they happen, but the new 3-series is an ugly POS.

2001 Volkswagen Beetle

After high school graduation, I bought myself a 2001 Volkswagen Beetle. It is a manual transmission (something I didn't know how to drive until I bought it) and has been a fairly reliable car so far. Great gas mileage, though I used to drive my dad's Jeep Wrangler, so it's relative.

'85 Honda Civic named Maude

My dad got me this car after my high school graduation in 2000. It ran, but was in pretty rough shape. We gave it a new paint job, new shocks, and a lot of love. As an art student, I used to fold down the seats and paint landscapes from the back. I drove that car until 2007!

'01 Ford Ranger

I learned to drive on this car when I was still in high school. It runs well enough, at least to get me from point A to point B. I'm just recently graduated (class of '09), I'm going to college right now, and I still drive this Ranger. I've been doing research looking for used cars. Anyone have any suggestions for something under $7000 that'd be great. akwhary@gmail.com

First Used Car - '65 Fiat 850

As a HS student in Germany (Dad was Military Contractor) we got a '65 Fiat 850 coupe (not the sporty two seater that they also made) in 1970 from a colleague of my dad's whose wife had died -$400-overpriced but that is why you should not buy cars from friends). The Car was a French model (Manual in French) as it was bought in France prior to France leaving NATO and friend being transferred to Germany. It was a nice little car when it worked (for about 2 years) but then it stared to fall apart. It had 850cc four in the back and had a 4 speed; it could go about 65mph before it started to overheat (no tach so I don't know what the rpms where). I remember it fondly; am know driving a '09 Hyundai Sonata (still with a stick shift!)

'49 Chevrolet

Over 793,000 of this model chevy was sold. It was a wonderful car for the family, then it became mine in 1953. I drove this car from Ohio to California three times and then sold it in 1958 in Calif. Too bad for GMC that they did not continue to build cars with the same quality, with advanced technology, as that new style Chevy had. I would like to have that car back it is still a beautifully designed automobile.

K-Car

My first (used) car was a 1982 Plymouth Reliant sedan, white with a red interior, 13" wheels and dog-dish hubcaps. With just 84 hp I couldn't get into much trouble, but I had a heck of a time attracting girls... I looked like an undercover cop on a tight budget.

'93 Mazda Miata LE

I loved my little Miata; it was zippy, had incredible handling, and was a real fuel sipper-- kinda like a motorcycle!
